Authentic Instruction Activity
The lesson plan that I will create will be one made for a High School American Government class. The method of authentic instruction I intend to use will be the Inquiry/Discovery Method. Specifically the lesson will be about the organization and powers of the Federal government. This includes the structure and powers of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches; as well as the system of checks and balances and the separation of powers of the three branches of government. I will be using the Inquiry/Discovery Method of authentic instruction so I will present questions to the students regarding the U.S. Constitution. The students will be assigned into groups of two and will be given different sections of the Constitution to research and present on. The students will have to create a multimedia presentation, preferably PowerPoint, incorporating at least one video into their presentation. I would take the students to a computer lab and give them a list of websites that are credible, including the following: (as well as a few others)
I will guide them by showing them how to embed videos and audio into PowerPoint presentations and tell them which websites are credible. My lesson plan will help the students understand the Constitution, learn how to make quality multimedia presentations, and how to properly research for projects.
